PROJECT MAYA: AFTERCARE SERVICES FOR YOUNG ADULT ORPHANS
Period: (May 2022- April 2023 & May 2023 – February 2024)
Community Served
Young Adult Orphans (YAOs) between the age group of 18-25 from the Palghar District of Maharashtra.
Objectives
- Mainstreaming, reintegration, and restoration of young adult orphans in society.
- Equip YAOs with vocational skills/education from the point of view of employability and entrepreneurship.
Activities
- Survey of the eligible persons in Child Care Institutions in Palghar District.
- Meetings with the Women and Child Development officials at the State, District, and Block Level of Palghar District.
- Providing support for housing facilities to YAOs.
- Providing food and basic needs to YAOs,
- Providing skills and vocational training for employability to YAOs.
- Providing social skills, independent living skills, and counseling to YAOs.
- Facilitating and arranging documents of identity, and eligibility to avail benefits by YAOs.
Main Outcome
- The skill training provided to YAOs helps them to become financially independent. As a result, they are able to take care of their livelihood even after the closure of the project.
- YAOs have the requisite skills and information to lead independent living.
- Now YAOs are independent and confident and are able to lead a respectable life in society.
Maharashtra Alliance for Young Adults

Children in the age group of 14-17 from the Children Care Homes/Observation Homes/After Care Homes/ Special Homes.
Objectives
- Mainstreaming, reintegration, and restoration of young adult orphans in society.
- Equip YAOs with vocational skills/education from the point of view of employability and entrepreneurship.
Activities
- Baseline Survey of 49 Children Care Homes/Observation Homes/After Care Homes/ Special Homes.
- Pre & Post Counseling Sessions and Aptitude Tests of 290 YAOs of 8 Child Care Institutions in Pune.
Main Outcome
- Data revalidation of 49 Children Homes, Observation Homes, and After Care Homes in Pune helped in developing the understanding of common and specific issues and challenges in the rehabilitation /restoration and reintegration of YAOs in Pune.
- Selection for vocational skills training based on the aptitude test of YAOs.
- Intensive interactions with 260 YAOs in Pune from Child Care Homes/After Care and Observation Homes in connection to career counseling.
- Vocational skills training enabled YAOs in acquiring the necessary vocational skills towards self-reliance, community acceptance, and restoration of self-respect.
- Data collection and data revalidation of 79 children of observation homes in Mumbai/ Mumbai Suburb and Thane Districts In collaboration with Bombay Community Public Trust, 2014-2015.

Objectives
- To understand common and specific issues and challenges in the rehabilitation/restoration and reintegration of YAOs from the Thane District of Maharashtra.
Activities
- Data collection and data revalidation of 79 Children from Observation Homes in Mumbai/ Mumbai Suburb and Thane Districts.
Main Outcome
- Need assessment highlighted areas that need to be covered during training and it helped to conceptualise and develop content for the training.
- The training helped us to address common and specific issues and challenges related to the rehabilitation /restoration and reintegration of YAOs in the Thane District of Maharashtra.

Objectives
- To understand common and specific issues and challenges in the rehabilitation/restoration and reintegration of YAOsfrom the Thane District of Maharashtra.
Activities
Consultation and meeting with stakeholders to understand and assess the magnitude of Orphan and Destitute Children across Maharashtra.
Main Outcome The District Consultation Meetings helped us in understanding the district-specific issues and challenges of YAOs in 26 districts of Maharashtra.
Project Phoenix (January 2022 – MARCH 2023)
Community Served
COVID 19 affected Families (where the bread earner have been lost) from Shahapur Murbad of Thane District, Shirur Block of Pune District and Semi Urban areas of Pune, Pimpari Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Thane and Sangali.
Objectives
- To understand and study the socio-economic challenges of the affected families
- To assess and understand the prioritization of support areas based on the data collection and needs assessment
- To explore the various avenues and opportunities for victim-affected families to be self-independent both socially and economically.
Activities
- Data Collection of 185 families from Shahapur Murbad of Thane District, Shirur Block of Pune District, and Semi Urban areas of Pune, Pimpari Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Thane and Sangali
- Financial support to the affected families in the areas of education, skill training, and livelihood opportunities for the women
- Follow-up and mentoring visits to the affected families
Main Outcome
- Financial support for the education of children who have lost their parents due to COVID-19 to continue their education
- Provided skill-based training for self-employment and access to job opportunity
- Follow-up visits and mentoring support to boost the morale and confidence of the affected families
- Facilitation and support to avail various government schemes
- Financial Support to 188 beneficiaries of 128 households
