National  Jal Jivan Mission ‐ Har Ghar Nalse Jal in 60 villages (54 Gram Panchayats (GP) of Shirur Block of Pune District (August 2021- July 2023)

Worked as a support agency for the implementation of the Jal Jivan Mission in 60 villages of Shirur Block, Pune District


  • Supply of safe and secured drinking water in 60 villages of Shirur Block, Pune District.
  • Conduct field-level activities  to ensure a safe and secured drinking water supply
  • Capacity building of local population for strengthening of water sources
  • Ensure uninterrupted safe and secured drinking water supply at Aagnawadi’s and Schools
  • Ensure cost-effective operation and maintenance in connection to the water supply
  • Promote the timely contribution of water tax for greater accountability and ownership     

Main Outcome

  • Data collection of 60 villages
  • Formation of 58 VHSNCs (Village Health Sanitation Nutrition Committees)
  • Capacity building of  800 SHG women and Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) Members from 23 villages on various aspects of water such as rainwater harvesting, water quality, water‐borne disease, water saving, water handling, source of drinking water and sustainability aspects
  • Capacity building of 120 persons in plumbing, electricians, and brick layers for cost-effective operation and maintenance

Community Served 

  • Native of 123 villages of Pune District
  • Safe Secure and sustainable drinking  water supply to the local population in peri-urban; water stressed, water quality affected, and  aquifer  management villages
  • Strengthen Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Committees (VHSNCs)


  • Community mobilization, development of village water plans, and capacity building of various stakeholders at the village level  through various social mobilization events in 70 priority villages  from 11 blocks of the Pune district 
  • Facilitation to VHSNCs for record-keeping
  • Monitoring of water supply and sanitation initiatives at village and block level 

Main Outcome

  • Safe and secured  drinking water  supply  with active community participation and ownership in different categories of villages like peri-urban; water stressed, water quality affected, and acquifier villages  
  • Enhanced community participation and responsive behavior with greater accountability and ownership at the village level
  • Baseline surveys and participatory rural appraisals helped in activating women’s gram sabhas and special gramsabhas
